Into the Woods (2013)

The Light Opera Theatre of Sacramento celebrated its 32nd season with Stephen Sondheim's "Into the Woods."

"Into the Woods" is perhaps one of the most memorable musicals written in the last 30 years. A collaboration between Sondheim (music and lyrics) and Lapine (book), this work is an open book, allowing each director to make their own interpretation. It contains familiar characters from Grimm's fairytales: Cinderella (Sara Haugland), Rapunzel (Kate Murphy), Little Red Riding Hood (Kelly Cullity and Jennifer Morrison), the Wolf (Chris Baad), and Jack (John Unrath) and the Giant (Rhonda Thomas), and then some unfamiliar ones: the Witch (Margherita Valeriano), the Baker (Mike Yee) and his wife (Dani Hansen), and others too:

  • - Cinderella's Stepmother (Nicole Cleveland and Jori Gonzalez)
  • - Florinda (Liz Tremaine)
  • - Lucinda (Franchesca Sonoyama)
  • - Cinderella's Father (Jerry Concilla)
  • - Cinderellas Mother (Kathrine O'Leary)
  • - Rapunzel's Prince (Elio Gutierrez)
  • - The Steward (Tim Power)
  • - Milky White (Troy Turpen)
  • - Snow White (Bernadette Durbin)
  • - Sleeping Beauty (Mary Murphy)
  • - Jack's Mom (Meredyth Rosenberg)
  • - Narrator & Mysterious Man (Mike Baad)

They come together in the woods, in their own quests to make their wishes come true. What happens in the end is surprising, especially for those who have never seen "Into the Woods."
